Review of Elf Princess Rane

Series: Elf Princess Rane

Episode Reviewed: 1

Distribution: Anime Works in dubbed and subbed VHS. (The dub was reviewed)

Dear God in Heaven, make it stop. Please, make the hurting stop!

Normally, I would be providing a plot synopsis, but I’m not sure this thing had a plot. Okay, cheap shot. It’s insane treasure hunter snoops around shrine, insane treasure hunter finds elf, both treasurer hunter and elf think the other is the key to some treasure, and mass chaos ensues. And chaos is the operative word. Nothing made any sense at all from a situation standpoint.

Elf Princess Rane was a non-stop scream fest. No, the screams were not from my friends and I as we watched the show, but from the dub. (The show drowned us out) Everyone talked at once, usually at the top of their voice or vocal register (must not start dub rant, must not start dub rant). Because of this, it was hard to figure out exactly what the heck was happening.

The artwork, well, let’s be honest, I was not impressed with it. This had a “seen one anime series, seen them all” feel to it. Someone did a rush job on the art, plot, and characters on this one.

Elf Princess Rane was a train wreck with little redeeming value. See it only if you must see everything ever animated. Otherwise, pass it up for something, anything else.

This series is the first reviewed to make it on the “20 Hours of My Life I Want Back” List denoting series so bad, I wish I could have used the time spent on a more constructive activity, such as staring out into space.

Final verdict: I would have asked for my money back if I hadn’t been watching a friend’s copy. Run away, don’t walk, from this blatant attempt to capitalize on anime’s popularity straight to Love Hina or Cowboy Bebop.

Quick Reviews (Detailed reviews coming soon)

Cowboy Bebop - Bandai - The first series to get an automatic must buy recommendation from me. If you like science fiction, film noir, or just a good yarn, pick this up immediately.

Love Hina - Fansub/Online Fansub - A refreshing romantic comedy well worth the effort to track down.

As always, this is my opinion and not the opinion of anyone else on the AFC Staff. Feel free to disagree and post a counter review. I’d welcome the competition. ^_^
